This new care home built on the grounds of “Villa Anna Teresa” was an opportunity to restore this hidden gem and return its beauty to the community by the forfeiture of a fully legit building which had kept it out of sight for so many years.
The main residential building has been carefully positioned on a committed parcel of land within the grounds of the ‘Villa’. It has been designed to the same proportions as that of the ‘Villa’ itself yet re-interpreted in contemporary grammar. The garden has been re-modelled to flow down into a newly shaped landscaped embankment intended to breathe light and life into the lower levels of the new residential volume. An axis featuring as the main dominant element in the original classical garden has been designed to also extend through the new residential volume.
Villa Anna Teresa Retirement Complex in St. Julian’s won two prestigious categories at the 2023 MASP Awards; the Commercial and Public Buildings category, and the Design Award for Good Architecture, Building and Structure.
